50s Birthday Party Theme
Ages: Grown Ups/Adults
Invitations:
Send invitations made to look like 45 records. Encourage your
guests to come in 50’s dress. It might be a good idea to give a
few items to help guests gather ideas for 50’s costumes. The 50’s
included, poodle skirts, bobby socks, saddle shoes, leather
jackets, white t-shirts, slicked back hair, cuffed jeans, and
ponytails. Another option is to send invites shaped like different
cars from the 50’s.
Decorations
Go with a black, white and a small amount of pink for the
decorations. Hang records from the ceiling. Put out classic car
memorabilia and diner memorabilia. If you are able to rent a juke
box it will add a lot of ambience to the party. Play music from
the 50’s like Elvis Presley, The Drifters, Nat King Cole, Chuck
Berry, Buddy Holly, The Avalons and The Chordettes.
Games and Activities:
Have a Hoola hoop contest. Even adults will enjoy it. Give
everyone some Bazooka bubble gum and have a bubble blowing
contest. Have a guess the tune game using all 50’s music. Play the
limbo. If you are having a party in an area large enough to dance,
it would be fun to hire someone to teach everyone how to do the
twist, the jitterbug, bop, swing, hully gully, peppermint, mashed
potato, the pony, swim, bunny hop or the stroll (all dances that
were popular in the 50’s). Bingo was also extremely popular in the
50’s and would make a good activity for a party.
Food Ideas:
Think traditional diner foods, like hamburgers, French fries,
milkshakes, root beer floats, ice cream and onion rings. Find soda
in traditional glass bottles with bottle caps.
Or you could have your own soda fountain. With a little searching
you can find many recipes to mix up some incredible drinks. Soda
fountain syrups can be bought online for reasonable prices.
Following are a few basic recipes.
Choose a Flavor Soda
Mix 3 ounces of any flavor syrup you choose with 10 ounces of
seltzer water and mix. Add ice.
Black Cow
Put 3 ounces of chocolate syrup in a large glass, add Root beer
until it is halfway full and stir. Add two scoops of vanilla ice
cream then fill the rest of the way with root beer.
Cherry Chocolate Coke
Mix a half ounce of chocolate syrup, with a half ounce of cherry
syrup in 12 ounces of cola.
